Where It Started
Our Foundations Were Built on Golf Courses.
SJM's story began in golf course construction. It was work that demanded an eye for detail and a deep understanding of what happens beneath the finished turf—shaping, levels, bunkers, drainage, irrigation, growing profiles and establishment.
Golf course construction taught us that quality is created layer by layer. A beautiful finish only performs when the work below it is right. That principle became part of SJM's identity and still guides our approach today.

Founder of SJM Turf & Civil
Jason Gale began his career in turf and civil construction with Grove, one of Australia's leading golf course construction companies. Working across numerous major projects, Jason developed extensive practical knowledge of earthworks, shaping, drainage, irrigation, growing profiles and high-quality turf establishment.
As his experience expanded across a diverse range of turf and civil projects, Jason developed a clear vision for building a company founded on quality workmanship, strong client relationships and hands-on leadership. In 2007, he backed himself and established SJM Turf & Civil.
Today, Jason remains actively involved in the business, bringing decades of industry experience and the same commitment to quality that has guided SJM from its beginning.

The same disciplines transferred naturally into ovals, sporting fields and horse racing surfaces. SJM continued building its team, systems and specialist plant around complete ground-up delivery.
